Happy Makar Sankranti! This is a powerful day in the Vedic calendar, marking the Sun's transition into Capricorn (Makara Rashi) and the beginning of Uttarayan, the six-month period of the Sun's northward journey. Astrological Significance of Makar Sankranti In Vedic astrology, this day is highly auspicious for several reasons: * Sun enters Capricorn: The Sun moves from Sagittarius into Capricorn, which is ruled by Shani (Saturn). While the Sun and Saturn have a complex relationship, this move symbolizes the start of a period of harvest, discipline, and cosmic light. * The End of Kharmas: This marks the end of an inauspicious month, opening the doors for weddings, housewarmings (Griha Pravesh), and new business ventures. * Spiritual Cleansing: It is believed that taking a dip in holy rivers (like the Ganga) on this day washes away past karmas and invites the blessings of the Sun God. Common Remedies & Practices During this time, many astrologers suggest: * Surya Arghya: Offering water to the Sun at sunrise to improve health and willpower. * Charity (Dana): Donating black sesame seeds (Til), jaggery, blankets, or food to the needy to appease Saturn and gain the Sun's favor. > A Note on the Date: In 2026, Makar Sankranti falls on January 15th, as the Sun enters the Makara Rashi early in the morning.
